Larian postponed the start of the “beta” and revealed new details of the seventh major patch for Baldur’s Gate 3, including performance improvements

Contrary to the recent announcement from Larian Studios, the closed beta of the seventh major patch for the fantasy role-playing game Baldur’s Gate 3 did not begin on July 22. The developers rushed to clarify the situation.

As it became known, the creators of Baldur’s Gate 3 did not have time to launch the closed beta testing of the update on time due to an unpleasant bug with one of the planned changes. The start of testing will take place before the end of the week, that is, until July 28.

The good news is that registration for participation in the closed beta of the seventh patch is still open – you can still submit an application (the “Request access” button) on the game page on the Steam service.

According to Larian, a list of major changes in the seventh patch will help pass the time before the launch of the closed beta (in total, the update contains more than a thousand fixes and improvements).

Some of them (such as the expansion of “evil” endings, dynamic split screen, new legendary actions in the “Valor” mode) are already known, so we will only mention the new ones:

  • A mod manager will appear in the game, through which you can view and install projects of other players;
  • Mechanics from the Valor mode can be activated in a custom difficulty level;
  • The graphics settings menu will become more logical and extensive;
  • Those who promised to gather an army of kuo-toa from the first act will now support the player in the final battle (if they all did not die);
  • Help from the Gondians in the final battle will now arrive in the form of the friendly Steel Guard;
  • Astarion in the camp will now not only read a book (new animations);
  • New animations in the camp for Minsk;
  • Mintara will have something to say if she is stunned in the first act;
  • Additional performance and stability optimizations throughout the game, including multiple code fixes;
  • Improved game performance in locations with a large number of NPCs (like the Lower City) and reduced memory consumption when loading a level for the first time.

Larian also insists that the listed changes from the seventh patch are only the main ones, while the full list will become available when the update releases in September.

Baldur’s Gate 3 left early access on PC (Steam, GOG) last August, and has since appeared on Mac, PS5, Xbox Series X and S. Although the game is almost a year old, the developers continue to find new tricks in it.
