Micron has introduced DDR5 RAM modules of the MRDIMM type (Multiplexed Rank Dual Inline Memory Module), which are designed specifically for server systems based on 6th generation Intel Xeon processors (Granite Rapids). New products offer very high speed.
Compared to conventional server RDIMMs, Micron’s new MRDIMMs offer 39% higher bandwidth, 15% higher power efficiency and up to 40% lower latency.
Micron will release MRDIMM modules with capacities of 32, 64, 96, 128 and 256 GB. All of them will be available as standard-height modules, and the 128 and 256 GB sticks will also be available in a larger TFF format with a height of 56.9 mm. All new products will operate at a speed of 8800 MT/s.
Micron notes that its DDR5 MRDIMMs will be manufactured using 16-, 24-, and 32-Gbit DDR5 DRAM memory chips using the proprietary and proven 1β process technology. Higher memory sticks have a larger surface area. As a result, the manufacturer promises an operating temperature for them that is 24% lower than that of conventional RAM modules.
According to the manufacturer, thanks to the increased bandwidth of MRDIMM memory, the next generation of Intel Xeon server processors will receive a significant increase in performance, which will make servers for artificial intelligence systems much more efficient.
Micron is currently sending out DDR5 MRDIMM samples for testing to interested customers. The start of mass deliveries of new RAM is expected in the second half of this year.
