WhatsApp has stopped working on some devices running KaiOS 2.5.4 and later, Reddit users have discovered. One of the owners of Nokia 6300 4G reported that the messenger stopped running on his phone (application version 2.2329.13; KaiOS 2.5.4) – attempts to reset the phone and reinstall applications did not help.
The problem turned out to be widespread: after installing WhatsApp version 2.2329.13 under KaiOS, users lost the ability to log into their accounts – the application shows the message “Something went wrong” without further details. Subsequently, it became clear that the problem affected mainly new users, and those who had already logged into the system continued to use the messenger.
Some tried a workaround by installing an older version of WhatsApp 2.2329.10, which required changing the date on the phone to June 28 to July 1, logging in, and updating to the latest version through KaiStore. But when checking the phone number, the application checks the time and version, resulting in a “critical error” that prevents you from logging in.
One of the phone owners managed to get a response from KaiOS support. As it turned out, only those who logged in before June 25, 2024 can use WhatsApp – for them the application will stop working at the beginning of 2025. WhatsApp updates for KaiOS will no longer be released, and the messenger has been removed from the KaiOS application store, and it will no longer be possible to install it – a corresponding statement soon appeared on the official website of the platform.
The WhatsApp shutdown affected the JioPhone, JioPhone 2, Nokia 800 Tough, Nokia 2720 Flip, Nokia 2760 Flip, Nokia 2780 Flip, Nokia 6300 4G, Nokia 8000 4G and Nokia 8110 4G phones, as well as some Alcatel and Energizer models. The messenger will also stop working on KaiOS 3.0, but until February 2025, those who are already logged into their account will be able to use it. There were no statements from the administration of WhatsApp itself.
