Apex Legends players’ dissatisfaction with Respawn Entertainment’s new battle pass policy has brought down the ratings of recent reviews of the free-to-play battle royale on Steam.

Let’s remember that last week Respawn introduced changes in which, among other things, battle passes can no longer be purchased with Apex coins – only with real money ($10 every half-season).

The bombardment of the Steam version of Apex Legends with negative reviews began on the day the new policy was announced and continues to this day. Since July 8, users of the service have left more than 24 thousand negative reviews about the game.

Apex Legends’ overall rating on Steam is based on 867K reviews, so it hasn’t suffered much (74%, “mostly positive”), which isn’t the case for recent reviews (i.e. those posted in the last 30 days).

As players have pointed out, after a week of bombardment, Apex Legends’ recent reviews on Steam have become “extremely negative” and its rating has dropped to 17%. What users write in their negative reviews:

  • «Two battle passes for $10 per season. “Titanfall died for this garbage,” Sniblet presses the patient;
  • «I’m here because I hate EA and they took my Titanfall 3,” Exception stated to the point;
  • «You have deprived me of my last motivation to enter the game, amen,” said Gerasim, who has played Apex Legends for almost a thousand hours;
  • «You’re not learning anything, are you EA?” – asks Keron Senna with 2179 hours in Apex Legends;
  • «It’s time to move on to other games,” AJ.ss decided after 2352 hours in Apex Legends;
  • «Long live the revolution!” – proclaims Auracarius;
  • «No,” rahh succinctly summed up the players’ position.

Users of the Apex Legends themed subreddit doubt that the collapse of the Steam ratings will have any impact on the situation, unless dissatisfied players vote against the new policy with their wallets.

The changes will take effect with the start of Season 22 in August. To promote the new format, the developers will give away a premium battle pass for the first stage to everyone who logs into the game during the first two weeks and completes “a series of challenges.”
