In difficult times for the Volkswagen automaker, the Porsche family of crossovers helped it survive, and with the advent of electric versions of the Macan in the brand’s assortment, special attention is paid to updating the model range. Two more versions of the electric crossover have been added to the two already existing versions, and for all modifications of the Macan it is now possible to order a conditionally off-road body kit.
The latter, as Electrek notes, mainly comes down to the presence of a front bumper that is more sloping at the bottom, which increases the approach angle to 17.5 degrees, which is ridiculous by the standards of serious SUVs. However, cars with an off-road package have a different air suspension setup. In its normal position, it increases the ground clearance by 10 mm to 195 mm, and in the uppermost position the ground clearance increases to a serious 225 mm, but you can move in this mode for a short time and at low speed.
Importantly, the electric Porsche Macan line now includes a base rear-wheel drive version (pictured in the first photo), which will be offered in the US starting at $75,300, allowing potential buyers to save $3,500 compared to all-wheel drive, and also theoretically increase the range per charge. The fact is that the basic version of the Macan lost the electric motor on the front axle and thereby saved 110 kg of weight, while the capacity of the traction battery remained the same – 100 kWh. Theoretically, a lighter car should travel more on the same charge, but there are no results of practical measurements yet. The all-wheel drive Porsche Macan, when it debuted on the US market, claimed an EPA range of 610 km.
The electric motor retained on the rear axle of the base Porsche Macan is capable of delivering a nominal power of 250 kW (335 hp), but if sudden acceleration is required, the power rises to 265 kW (355 hp), which in combination with 562 N‧m of torque of torque allows the rear-wheel drive car to accelerate to 100 km/h in approximately 5.4 seconds. The basic version of the crossover uses the same platform with a voltage of 800 V, which allows, when connected to a 270 kW express charging station, to increase the charge of the traction battery from 10 to 80% in 21 minutes.
The second modification of the electric crossover presented yesterday is the Porsche Macan 4S, which will fit between the existing all-wheel drive version of the Macan 4 and the most powerful version of the Macan Turbo. The all-wheel drive crossover Macan 4S received an updated electric motor on the rear axle, which is combined with a silicon carbide-based inverter that allows it to transmit a current of 600 A. The front electric motor remains the same, and together the Macan 4S power plant produces 330 kW or 442 hp. in nominal mode, and if acceleration is required, peak power increases to 380 kW or 509 hp.
The Macan 4S reaches 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, and the top speed is limited to 238 km/h. The all-wheel drive Macan 4 in this sense reaches a speed of 218 km/h, but the flagship Macan Turbo can accelerate to 258 km/h. This crossover comes with adaptive air suspension by default; in the US, the Macan 4S version will be offered at a price starting at $84,900. New modifications of the crossover will appear on the local market in the next quarter.
