Following complaints about excessive fan noise on Noctua’s latest flagship cooler, the NH-D15 G2, the manufacturer conducted an investigation and pledged to issue refunds to consumers who purchased it. Sales of the cooler for $150 started on July 15 on several trading platforms – the company had been preparing its release for many years, but consumers immediately began to receive complaints about significant noise during operation.

Noctua said it has carried out a thorough analysis of the problem. Based on the results of the preliminary investigation, it was determined that the noise may be caused by the loosening of the upper radiator fin during transportation. Because of this, vibrations and slight rattling noise may appear during cooler operation – although its level is small (less than 0.5 dBA), it is noticeable enough to cause complaints. Especially considering that Noctua coolers have always been famous for their quiet operation, which is what consumers expect.

The manufacturer has proposed a temporary solution for customers who are faced with a noise problem: it is recommended to stick a piece of adhesive tape or electrical tape on the side of the radiator fin, or insert a small piece of plastic or foam about 1.8 mm thick between the upper and second fins of the radiator – this will soften vibrations and reduce noise .

For consumers who were unable to solve the problem using the method proposed by the manufacturer, Noctua is ready to provide a full refund. You can initiate the return process by sending an email to [email protected].
