Canadian scientist of Slovak origin Andrej Karpathy took part in the formation of OpenAI from 2015 to 2017, then helped Tesla create its autopilot for several years, but after returning to OpenAI, he left this startup for several months to found his own company. It was Eureka Labs, which promises to revolutionize the student learning process.
Since even during the years of his activity in OpenAI and Tesla, Andrei Karpaty did not stop giving lectures and creating his own educational courses, the topic of improving teaching methods was close to him from the very beginning. As reported in a laconic press release on the Eureka Labs website, the startup he founded will try to introduce artificial intelligence into education technologies. By and large, Eureka Labs will try to create an AI assistant for teachers who, with its help, will be able to spend less time directly speaking in front of an audience, and, if necessary, present material in various languages that they do not actually speak.
It is possible that we are talking about creating some kind of virtual avatars of teachers who will provide educational material optimized with the help of artificial intelligence to an online audience. The first-born of the startup, however, will be the LLM101n project, which will help students independently create small artificial intelligence systems. Access to the course materials is expected to be provided online, but in the real world, teams of developers will work together to master it. The company Eureka Labs was registered in the United States only in June, and it is still difficult to understand how much capital it has, and whether it is supported by any investors other than Andrei Karpathy himself.
