Even eight years after its release, the developers of No Man’s Sky continue to actively develop the game. With the release of patch 5.0 called Worlds Part I, the space adventure now supports Nvidia DLSS 3, a new expedition has begun, and more.
The game launched a galactic hunt for bugs in the spirit of Starship Troopers. In an expedition called “The Liquidators”, which will last about six weeks, you will have to exterminate fantastic insects in dynamic and balanced battles, as well as destroy their larvae. Completion offers unique rewards, including an Organic Armor Set, the Liquidator BattleMech with Flamethrower, a Chitin Jetpack, and Bug Hunter Trophies.
Other innovations:
- Support for Nvidia DLSS 3, which increases performance up to four times;
- New water rendering technology capable of creating weather-responsive waves, as well as realistic reflections and foam. Innovations completely transform the seas, oceans and lakes – they are especially noticeable in the example of ocean planets;
- New volumetric clouds – increased clarity, new details (thin cirrus and dark rain clouds have appeared, and the night sky has become much more diverse), improved performance, corrected visual artifacts;
- A new color palette for skies and oceans inspired by 1970s science fiction;
- Believable wind simulation: grass and leaves sway, and trees sway during a storm;
- Redesigned lighting – the light became more natural, the shadows deeper and more realistic (vegetation benefited the most from this). In addition, cloud shadows are now calculated relative to the position of the sun;
- Updated weather effects – fog, dust, ash, rain, snow, lava eruptions;
- Ships can now land on water;
- «Cardinal” changes in the appearance of all planets – due to gravitational distortions, drifting air islands appeared, which can be reached using a jetpack or starship. It is allowed to build bases on the islands (in addition, they were allowed to build them under water);
- Some buildings have also learned to move – in anomalous sectors they grow legs and turn into intelligent walking structures;
- New toxic worlds with poisonous flora and idyllic blooming planets, as well as more colorful radioactive and scorched planets;
- The ability to create Solar-class ships in the Starship Fabricator editor;
- Transformed snow-covered and desert planets – on the former they added icy trees, sparkling glaciers, new flora and minerals, and on the latter they became more diverse and acquired palm trees;
- Engine improvements – the graphics accelerator is now fully responsible for visualizing environmental objects (trees, grass, stones), which allows you to create more rich worlds without sacrificing performance. Also, vegetation, minerals and curiosities received better detail at greater distances;
- New species of plants and animals, including hostile and peaceful beetles, as well as bizarre walking flower hybrids;
- Qualitative improvements – the ability to rename open systems, planets and other objects, more convenient labels for interactive and destructible objects, interruptible reloading, repairs from the quick menu and more.
The full list of changes is available on the official website. Hello Games CEO Sean Murray spoke about the main innovations in a separate video: “I think we added features that players no longer expected to see.”
Users were delighted with the update. “I will return to this game,” wrote filipedesouzaart in the comments to the trailer. — I’ll start the campaign again with a completely new character. These guys deserve it.” “AAA games are on the rise,” says crash10125. “Outstanding work.”
